The beautiful Chittenden Reservoir area has once again been cleaned of litter and trash, thanks to dedicated groups who helped make Chittenden Reservoir Clean-Up Day, Sept. 25, a success in its 15th year.
Student volunteers from Castleton University’s Environmental Harm and Mitigation. Strategies class walked the shoreline of the reservoir and Leffert’s Pond to clean up this beautiful natural resource. To make it easy for the students to do their work, Casella Waste Systems donated a Dumpster and Blue Ridge Outfitters donated kayaks. Alex Waller and Brett Waller, Castleton football players, both participated in the effort.
Since the Chittenden Reservoir Clean-Up day began in 2002, its been incredible to see recreational enthusiasts taking on environmental stewardship of the reservoir keeping the area cleaner, making cleanup a minimal effort.
For GMP, the reservoir helps generate clean, cost-effective electricity for customers and is also a treasured resource that people love to visit. The area is home to loons, ospreys, bald eagles, moose, deer, beaver, river otters and several species of ducks.
On behalf of Green Mountain Power, I would like to thank Castleton University, Casella Waste Systems and Blue Ridge Outfitters for their support and participation in keeping this important tradition alive. It’s wonderful to see what we can accomplish working together to make the state we love a little more beautiful.
